Winterbraids VIII is the eigth edition of an itinerant school on braids and low-dimensional topology, that will be held at CIRM (http://www.cirm-math.com) in Marseille (France) from February 5th to 9th, 2018.
The school will take place in a thematic month on low dimensional topology and related topic and it will be mainly supported by the CIRM, the GDR Tresses and the University of Aix-Marseille.
The main lectures will be given by:
Claire Amiot (University of Grenoble-Alpes): Cluster algebras and categorification;
Michel Boileau (University of Aix-Marseille): 3-manifolds groups and related topics;
Tara Brendle (University of Glasgow): Congruence braid groups;
David Gay (University of Georgia): From Heegaard splittings to trisections; porting 3-dimensional ideas to dimension four.
There will also be short talks and a poster session devoted to student presentations (not necessarily focused on braids or their generalizations).
The school will start on Monday morning and will end on Friday at noon. On the website of CIRM (http://conferences.cirm-math.fr/1892.html) there is a pre-registration form, to be filled BEFORE 31/10/2017. Selected participants will be contacted afterwards to confirm their registration. We will support living expenses for all confirmed registered students or postdocs. Notice that this year we will not be able to provide any help for travel expenses.
