PhD position in Number Theory, RICAM, Austria
We announce the opening of one PhD student position available within the Applied Discrete Mathematics and Cryptography group at the Johann Radon Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics (RICAM http://www.ricam.oeaw.ac.at/) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Linz, Austria. The applicant will work with László Mérai in the framework of the project “Pseudorandomness and cryptography: Number theoretic methods” funded by the Austrian Science Fund FWF.
The project is devoted to study number theoretic problems motivated by cryptography, algorithmic problems in number theory and different problems in the theory of pseudorandomness. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to present the results on scientific conferences worldwide and to earn a PhD degree from the Johannes Kepler University (JKU), Linz, Austria. The candidate is required to have a master degree (or equivalent) in mathematics or a related field (or is close to finish on). Preferably, the candidate should be familiar with algebra, discrete mathematics and number theory.
The PhD position offers excellent opportunities to work in a lively research environment and collaborate with international experts in the field of applied mathematics. The starting date of the project can be adjusted to the candidate’s needs, but should not be later than September 2019. We offer a yearly gross salary of EUR 29.573,60 within a 75% employment (30 hours per week) for the PhD position. Funding would be possible for up to three years.
