PhD position in String Mathematics
The University of Hamburg invites applications for a Research Associate for the project “Building Blocks of Physical Theories from the Geometry of Quantization and BPS states, within the DFG funded Emmy Noether group led by Dr. Murad Alim” in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG). The position commences on 1.October 2017, or later.
It is remunerated at the salary level TV-L 13 and calls for 50 % of standard work hours per week.
The fixed-term nature of this contract is based upon Section 2 of the Academic Fixed-Term Labor Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of 3 years.

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates can also pur- sue independent research and further academic qualifications.

A university degree in a relevant field. A strong background in mathematics and theoretical physics is required. The candidate will preferably have solid knowledge of representation theory, differential, complex and algebraic geometry as well as familiarity with quantum field theory and string theory.
