The European Research Council (ERC) has selected 536 early-career top researchers across Europe in the latest 'Starting Grant' competition, with a budget of almost €800 million. In this Starting Grant competition, 4741 applications were received, which is a 16% rise from last year (4080). Also, the budget, nearly €800 million, saw an increase of over 17% from 2011, as planned at the beginning of the Seventh Research Framework Programme. The number of researchers selected for funding rose by around 12%. The success rate, 11.3%, dropped slightly compared to last year's 12%.
25 of these grants were given to young mathematicians (see PE1 in the list linked to below)
