The Mathematical Institute of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Chile (Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaiso) invites applications for two tenure-track positions beginning in 2013:
One position in Mathematics
One position in Didactics of Mathematics (Mathematics Education)
Applicants should have a Ph. D. Degree, a strong commitment to Teaching and Research, and a good disposition to Speaking Spanish. Applications should be sent by March 1st, 2013.
In Mathematics, Research areas active at the Institute are Biomathematics, Dynamical Systems, Mathematical Physics, Number Theory, Numerical Analysis, Probability, and Representation Theory.
In Didactics of Mathematics, Research areas active at the Institute are Foundations of Didactics of Mathematics, Socioepistemology, Anthropological Theories, and Cognitive and Semiotic Theories.
Candidates are expected to have a strong research potential and to be able to obtain national or international research grants (the University provides also internal grants).
Teaching load consists of two one-semester courses per year. Undergraduate courses must be taught in Spanish. If necessary, the Institute will support to enhance language skills.
At the current exchange rate, the expected annual salary is approximately equivalent to US $34.000 in Chilean pesos.
After a period of two to four years, tenure-track faculties must enter a process conducting to full tenure.
