This six-month Chair is intended for an outstanding, innovative researcher from a non-French institution who will work closely with a Local project leader based at Aix-Marseille Université or within one of the research units members of the FRUMAM (Fédération de recherche des Unités de Mathématiques de Marseille. All areas of mathematical sciences are considered.
The idea is not only to collaborate at an international level but also to develop strong synergies with laboratories, researchers, doctoral students and with the local mathematical sciences community at large.
The Chair consists of 2 people setting up an innovative Scientific Program of events (comprising a large conference, a winter school, one or two small group workshop(s), and one or two research in pairs) organized alongside a Program of invitations ('People'), put in place in order to support these events by drawing international mathematicians to Luminy.
The Chair is an exciting opportunity to boost international attractiveness for the Marseille Region and to enhance current trends or develop new ideas for the future, in the field of mathematical sciences. It is also a chance for foreign researchers to spend six months at CIRM, one of the most dynamical centres for mathematical events in Europe, and combine this with possible visits or attendance to workshops at other European centres.
This Chair is subject to funding (funding plan currently under consideration for 2015) and normally includes a professorial salary from Aix-Marseille Université for the holder of the Chair; CIRM's support in terms of board and lodging for the various events, subject to usual criteria, rentable accommodation onsite in the totally renovated Maison de chercheurs 'Jean-Morlet', as well as a 20,000€ grant from the City of Marseille to support the program of invitations.
