The Instituto de Matemática y Física of the Universidad de Talca invites applications for one position starting March 2014. The position is open to all areas of mathematics, but preference will be given to applicants whose research interests are connected to those of the institute: algebra, algebraic combinatorics, analysis, number theory, mathematical physics, and representation theory. Candidates in the field of analysis (including functional analysis, differential equations and dynamical systems) will be given a priority.
The Instituto de Matemática y Física is looking for candidates with a strong record or potential in research who are willing to apply for grants and participate in academic activities. Applicants are also expected to have a strong commitment to quality teaching and mentoring.
The Instituto de Matemática y Física is one of the leading mathematics Institute in Chile. The teaching load, usually of 180 hours a year, is relatively low. Salaries are very competitive, starting around US$60.000 per year before taxes. Research grants awarded by the Chilean government may also provide extra salary of about US$10.000 per year.
