SMAI, the French professional society for applied and industrial mathematics, has committed to the founding of a new journal of computational mathematics: the SMAI Journal of Computational Mathematics, or SMAI-JCM, which will be freely accessible to all, and will not require the payment of fees for publication. The journal welcomes submissions addressing
- Computational linear and nonlinear algebra
- Numerical solution of ordinary and partial differential equations
- Discrete and continuous optimization and control

As part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the London Mathematical Society, and the 25th Anniversary of the European Mathematical Society, the two Societies will he hosting a joint EMS/LMS weekend at the University of Birmingham (September 18-20, 2015). The emphasis of the meeting will be on Algebra, Analysis and Combinatorics as well as the interactions between these areas and probability theory.
