We invite applications at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Warwick Mathematics Institute. The successful candidate will participate in the vibrant and diverse activities in the mathematical sciences at Warwick, and contribute to the EPSRC-funded MathSys CDT (Centre for Doctoral Training in Mathematics for Real-World Systems).

The WMI has a strong track record in applied mathematics with world-leading research groups at the Zeeman Institute of Mathematical Biology and the Complexity Centre. The associated MathSys CDT comprises some 80+ graduate students focusing on the development of multiscale, machine-learning and hybrid modelling approaches in four broad application areas: mathematical biology, health and epidemiology, socio-technical systems and industrial optimisation.

Candidates should hold a PhD in mathematics or one of the mathematical sciences and should have some years of postdoctoral experience. We are particularly interested in candidates that are developing novel mathematical approaches for tackling real-world problems. Due to the outward-facing nature of our activities we expect the proposed research to enhance the impact of MathSys and the Institute through collaborative or external engagement. As well as contributing to research around this remit, key activities will also include teaching, supervision of MathSys CDT students and contributing to the management of the centre.

The MathSys CDT is a very welcoming and inclusive environment: as part of their application, candidates are encouraged to briefly set out their ideas for sustaining and improving equality, diversity and inclusion in the context of the CDT and Institute.

We welcome applications from women and under-represented groups because an inclusive culture is essential to helping all our students and staff achieve their full potential. The position would ideally start by January 2021, although a later start-date may be possible by negotiation.

Further information about the MathSys CDT can be found on our webpage: https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/mathsys/

Members of the MathSys management team will be happy to respond to any questions, and can be contacted via the MathSys administrator: j.m.perkins$warwick.ac.uk. Your application should include a CV and list of publications. Applicants should ideally arrange for three referees to send letters of recommendation to mathematicsPA$warwick.ac.uk before the closing date. Please note that it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the reference letters are received by the closing date. The post reference number should be quoted in all correspondence.

Closing date: 30 August 2020.

Interviews to be held week commencing 2 November 2020.
