Associate Professor/Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics at Aarhus University seeks candidates, characterized by excellence and vision in their research, for an Associate Professor/Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in Mathematics.
The position is open from 1 August 2019.
The Faculty of Science at Aarhus University - an international top-100 University - is currently undergoing a strategic expansion, in particular within classical Engineering and Digitalisation disciplines. In particular, the production of graduates in Engineering and Digitalisation disciplines will see a significant boost. The Department of Mathematics plays a key role in this expansion through teaching and interdisciplinary research activities.
The Department of Mathematics currently employs 31 permanent scientific staff members in the traditional mathematical disciplines and stochastics. The Department of Mathematics is a stakeholder in DIGIT, "Centre for Digitalisation, Big Data and Data Analytics", and has collaborations with BiRC, "Bioinformatics Research Centre", and CREATES, "Center for Research in Econometric Analysis of Time Series".
The successful candidate should have:
- strong record of original scientific contributions in areas of mathematics bordering Engineering Sciences or Computer Science.
- a documented ability and interest in taking responsibility for teaching mathematics to, e.g., Engineering students.
- an ability and desire to engage in -- and initiate -- interdisciplinary research projects.
- a track record in obtaining, or the potential to attract, external funding for research activities.
The successful candidate is expected to:
- participate in and drive interdisciplinary research, e.g., through DIGIT, BiRC, and CREATES.
- to teach and develop mathematics courses for natural and technical sciences.
- supervise students at all levels from Bachelor to PhD.
- build and sustain a research group around her/himself through external funding.
The applicant may upload up to 10 key publications with the application. While the assessment committee will evaluate the overall scientific achievements of all shortlisted candidates, they can only be expected to look into individual scientific results among those contained in publications submitted with the application.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.
Formalities and salary range
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
Research activities will be evaluated in relation to actual research time. Thus, we encourage applicants to specify periods of leave without research activities, in order to be able to subtract these periods from the span of the scientific career during the evaluation of scientific productivity.
