Lecturer in statistics
The Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis (http://math.aalto.fi/en/) at Aalto University invites applications from talented individuals for a lecturer track position in statistics. The post will be filled on a fixed term or permanent basis at the University Teacher, University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer level on the Aalto University lecturer track depending on the competence and merits of the applicant.
The main research areas of the department are:
- Algebra and discrete mathematics,
- Numerical analysis and mechanics,
- Stochastics and statistics,
- Systems and operations research.
Applications from all research areas are welcome, but experience in statistics or a closely related field is considered a significant advantage.
The applicants should hold a doctoral degree in statistics, operations research, mathematics, or a related discipline. The ability and enthusiasm to teach relevant courses on the bachelor’s level are central requirements. Excellent written and spoken English is essential. Moreover, Aalto University reserves the right to consider good command of Finnish as a decisive advantage when filling the position, because most of the bachelor’s level teaching offered by the department is in Finnish. A University Teacher, University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer in the lecturer track system of Aalto University is expected to teach and otherwise advance academic education, to participate in research activities, to display pedagogical leadership, and to be an active member of the scientific community. Career advances on the lecturer track are based on scheduled performance assessments, which take into account the candidate’s merits in all these areas.
Salary and working time
The salary will be determined upon the competence and experience of the selected candidate following the salary system of the Finnish universities. Teaching personnel belong to the total working hours system, and they work 1624 hours annually. Aalto University provides health care and retirement benefits.
The starting date for the position is negotiable, but being able to start before August 15, 2019 is considered an advantage.
