PhD studentship in mathematics

A PhD position is available within the Applied Analysis Group at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Karlstad University. The Applied Analysis Group focusses on  multiscale modeling, mathematical analysis and simulation of partial differential equations, kinetic theory, functional analysis, and computational number theory.

The PhD student will conduct research on interacting-particle systems (and corresponding hydrodynamic limit evolution equations) arising from the modeling of pedestrian dynamics. Typical research questions will refer either to the modeling and numerical simulation of the motion of interacting particles in domains with obstacles, to the development of a well-posedness and computability theory of measure-valued equations for interacting pedestrians, or to the convergence study of the involved discrete-to-continuous limits.
