Postdoctoral Fellow

Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics. Reference number SU FV-0965-14. Deadline for applications: April 11, 2014.

The Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University with its excellent research record and long lasting traditions has acquired a very special place in Scandinavian mathematics. The department consists of two divisions: mathematics and mathemtical statistics. Professors and lecturers working at the division of mathematics possess competence in different areas of mathematics ranging from algebra, geometry and analysis to mathematical logic and combinatorics.

Responsibilities
A Postdoctoral Research Fellow is expected to conduct research and may, to some extent, teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The candidate must be able to collaborate with researchers already employed at the division. It is important that the applicant already before the application deadline establishes contact with some researchers at the division and discusses the research program. Ideally, the applicant already has collaborations with someone at the department.

Admission requirements
A Postdoctoral Research Fellow is employed foremost in order to perform research and should have a doctoral degree.

Assessment criteria
The PhD degree should be obtained before the starting date and at most three years before the deadline for application. In case of special reasons the doctoral degree could have been obtained earlier. Such reasons are leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, trade union service or other similar circumstances.

In the appointment process special weight will be given to scientific proficiency. Weight will also be given to the proposed research program and its connection to research at the department.

The position is directed towards research in inverse problems and the study of mathematical models in imaging techniques, e.g. tomography. The applicant must display strong related research experience, such as having previously studied the Calderón problem or Radon/X-ray transform.

Terms of employment
The employment is full-time and for 1 year with possibility of a second year. Prolongation beyond the second year might be possible only due to special reasons. Starting date is May 1, 2014, or by appointment.

Stockholm University strives to be a work place that is free from discrimination and with equal opportunities for all.
