The Faculty of Mathematics at Bielefeld University is about to advertise a postdoctoral position ("wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter")
to work in the research group of Christopher Voll.
The position is funded jointly by the German-Israel Foundation (GIF) and Bielefeld University.
The appointee's principal research duties will be to contribute to the GIF-funded project "Subring and subgroup growth under base
extension", conducted jointly with the group around Dr. Michael Schein at Bar-Ilan University, Israel.
The post holder will also be expected to teach for two hours per week during term time. At least initially, the teaching may be
done in English. Willingness to learn German will be met with support for language tuition.
The appointment will be initially for the two-year period commencing 01 May 2015, or soon thereafter. The position may be prolonged by another year. By default the position is full-time; a part-time appointment may be negotiated. The relevant pay scale is E 13 TV-L, the standard one for postdoctoral appointments in Germany.
Applicants should hold, or to be about to complete, a doctorate in a relevant mathematical subject area, such as algebra, number theory or
geometry. Research experience in asymptotic group theory will be an advantage, but is not essential. Willingness to engage with the
Israeli team around Dr. Schein is necessary. Family and health issues notwithstanding, this includes occasional travel to Israel.
For details about Voll's general research interests, as well as details about the research project and application process, see http://www.math.uni-bielefeld.de/~voll/.
The closing date for applications is 31 March 2015. Interested candidates should contact Christopher Voll at email@example.com as soon as possible.
