Postdoctoral Positions in Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics at West Virginia University invites applications for three full-time postdoctoral positions to begin August 2019. Initial appointments will be made for two years, renewable for a 3rd year in exceptional cases. We seek scholars in each of the following areas: applied mathematics, mathematics education and foundations/algebra/topology.
The positions require a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a closely related field earned within the past 5 years, evidence of excellent research and teaching ability and to establish research collaborations with current Department faculty members (https://www.math.wvu.edu/research_interests) and a commitment to excellence in teaching. Candidates are expected to contribute to teaching in the calculus sequence, with a teaching load of two courses per semester and will have access to professional development opportunities including funding for travel to professional meetings.
The Department of Mathematics includes 25 tenured and tenure-track faculty, two current postdoctoral researchers, and about 65 graduate students. West Virginia University is a land grant institution enrolling over 29,000 students and has a Carnegie Classification of Highest Research Activity. The University is located in Morgantown, WV, an award-winning "small" city with a metropolitan population of about 100,000 within easy travel distance of Pittsburgh and Washington, DC.
