Research Associate in Number Theory
Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate in Number Theory. You will work full time alongside Dr Daniel Loughran on the EPSRC funded project “Quantitative Arithmetic Geometry”, with topics revolving around the existence and distribution of rational points on algebraic varieties over number fields.
The post is available for 2 years from 1st April 2018 (or by negotiation). It comes with substantial travel funds and no teaching duties.
You should have an interest in rational points on varieties and specialist knowledge in a relevant area such as arithmetic geometry, algebraic geometry, analytic number theory or additive combinatorics. You should have, or be about to obtain, a relevant PhD (or equivalent), have excellent communication and writing skills, and have a track record of (or demonstrated potential for) world-class independent research.
You should include a CV and a 1 page research statement as part of your application. You should also arrange for 2 academic letters of recommendation be sent to Daniel.Loughran@manchester.ac.uk by the deadline
The School of Mathematics of the University of Manchester has recently reformed its number theory group and currently consists of 4 lecturers, 1 emeritus professor, 3 Turing fellows and 1 postdoctoral research assistant. There is a weekly number theory seminar and the group is active in analytic number theory, arithmetic geometry and algebraic number theory.
