The School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences (EECMS) was formed in 2018 to marry Curtin’s computational expertise in mathematics, statistics and computing with applications in materials science, quantum physics, signal processing and astronomy. The teaching and research programs in EECMS underpin the Curtin Institute for Computation, the Curtin-led ARC Industrial Training Centre for Transforming Maintenance through Data Science, and the Curtin-Optus Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence. EECMS includes the Curtin Institute for Radio Astronomy, which plays a major leadership role in the Square Kilometre Array project, one of the largest scientific endeavours in history, and the school is at the forefront of emerging research opportunities in proton therapy, hydrogen storage, and defence technologies. EECMS offers an accredited actuarial science course, one of only seven in Australia and the only one in Western Australia, with a strong focus on applied statistics and data analytics.
Your new role
This role sits within the Mathematics and Statistics discipline of EECMS.
As a research associate/fellow, you will work as part of an existing research group to advance the school’s research agenda in optimisation, optimal control, and operations research.
The role will involve:
- Collaborating with industry partners to develop new theory and algorithms to solve optimisation and control problems in practical applications;
- Publishing high quality journal articles;
- Supervising honours and post graduate students; and
- Participating in grant applications for research funding.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic research team with a passion for translating new mathematical results into real-world outcomes.
You will bring to this role
- A PhD in optimisation, control, or operations research with a strong record of publications in high-quality international journals in these areas.
- Demonstrated potential to work with industry and/or other disciplines on funded projects.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct innovative research.
- Ability to work with a broad range of people from varying research backgrounds and evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent computing skills and experience working with relevant programming languages and platforms such as Julia, Python, and AIMMS.
- A record of active participation and presentations at major international conferences in optimisation, control, and/or operations research.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimal supervision while contributing to overall team performance and proven ability to meet performance deadlines.
