Senior Lectureship in Mathematical Education
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Karlstad University, Sweden, has an opening for a position as Senior lecturer in Mathematics Education.
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science consists of the two research subjects: Mathematics and Computer science, and has a research and teaching staff of more than 70 persons. In Mathematics, research and education are conducted within Mathematics/Applied Mathematics and Mathematics Education. The mathematics education research conducted within the department focuses mainly on ICT as a pedagogical tool, teachers’ informal professional development on social media, and mathematics teaching in pre-school. The research is largely organized within interdisciplinary groups at the university, and in well-established partnerships with research groups at other universities. The research focus has been the design of mathematical tasks and teaching sequences from pre-school to university level, teachers as task designers, and students’ mathematical reasoning in problem solving. The announced position is a full time tenure appointment and is intended to complement and strengthen current research and education in Mathematics Education.
For this position, we are looking for a strongly motivated individual who has a strong research record related to the focus areas mentioned above. As the group is in a phase of expansion, the candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the Mathematics Education group by carrying out high-quality research in line with and complementing the aforementioned research directions, strengthening its networks and expanding its external funding through applications for grants at the national and international level. Moreover, the candidate is expected to interact and collaborate with other departments of the university and the local community. The duties also include research administration, supervision of BSc, MSc and PhD students, teaching in mathematics education, course development and coordination. The successful candidate is expected to teach and supervise partly in Swedish within a couple of years.
