IMU Breakout Graduate Fellowships: Call for nominations

The newly established IMU Breakout Graduate Fellowships will offer a limited number of grants for excellent students from developing countries. Professional mathematicians are invited to nominate highly motivated and mathematically talented students from developing countries who plan to complete a doctoral degree in a developing country, including their own home country.

Nomination of speakers for ICM 2018

The Program Committee (PC) for the International Congress of Mathematicians 2018 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 1-9, 2018 has been set up.  The Adhering Organizations of IMU and the mathematical societies worldwide are invited to nominate plenary and sectional speakers.
For nominations of speakers please specify whether you suggest them as plenary speakers or section speakers. In case of proposals of section speakers please indicate to which sections you would like the persons to be invited. Shared lectures between sections are also possible.

EMS-IAMP Summer School in Mathematical Physics

An EMS-IAMP Summer School in Mathematical Physics on "Universality, Scaling Limits and Effective Theories" will be held in Rome, Italy, on July 11-15, 2016. The main courses (5 hours each) will be given by: Y. Avron (Technion), R. Bauerschmidt (Harvard), H. Duminil-Copin (Geneve), A. Giuliani (Roma Tre), and P. Pickl (LMU Munich). In addition to the main courses, the school will offer three advanced seminars by: P. Caputo (Roma Tre), E. Prodan (Yeshiva, NY), and N. Rougerie (Grenoble).

Mathematics of Planet Earth: New Competition

IMAGINARY, UNESCO, the International Mathematical Union (IMU), and the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI) open a second international competition of exhibit modules to enrich the Mathematics of Planet Earth (MPE) exhibition. The competition aims in particular to address the challenges in Africa, as well as in other regions of the world.
1st prize:  5 000 USD, 2nd prize:  2 000 USD, 3rd prize:  1 000 USD.
Special prize for African topic:       2 000 USD
Deadline:  June 30, 2017

Abel in Zurich

On behalf of the Abel Committee of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, the FIM - Institute for Mathematical Research - in Zurich is hosting a one-day symposium on 20 January 2016 with talks given by Sir Michael Atiyah (The University of Edinburgh, Abel Prize Laureate), John Rognes (University of Oslo, Head of the Abel Prize Committee) and Endre Szemerédi (Rutgers University, Abel Prize Laureate).

2016 Louis Bachelier Prize: Nominations solicited

The Louis Bachelier Prize is a biennial prize jointly awarded by the London Mathematical Society (LMS), the Natixis Foundation for Quantitative Research and the Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (SMAI). The winners are prominent personalities, widely recognized in the academic and professional worlds of quantitative finance and/or risk management. The closing date for nominations is 31st January 2016.

Nominations for the 2016 Hermann Weyl Prize solicited

The purpose of the Hermann Weyl Prize is to provide recognition for young scientists who have performed top level original work in the area of understanding physics through symmetries. The Prize, which is awarded every two years by the Standing Committee of the International Colloquium on Group Theoretical Methods in Physics (ICGTMP), consists of a certificate citing the accomplishments of the recipient, prize money, and an allowance towards attendance at Group31, ICGTMP in Rio de Janeiro, June 20-24, 2016, where the Prize will be awarded.
