This book is an edited and augmented second printing of the first edition of the book, which was reviewed in the EMS Newsletter in June 1999, page 33. New parts of the text mostly present new research published since the last edition and some newly included material. Some typographical errors and misprints have been corrected. The list of references has also been augmented.
